How does this vaccine work
Corbevax is the country’s first indigenously developed Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) protein designed against infectious viruses on a conventional subunit vaccine platform. The RBD is part of the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 and, upon contact with it, attaches itself to its cells.
The vaccine contains an antigen that has been developed by the Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development and is licensed from the Integrated Commercialization Team of BCM Ventures, Baylor College of Medicine.

what is the cost of the vaccine
Currently, this vaccine is being given to children in the age group of 12 to 14 years. The Covaxin shot is for people who fall in the 15 to 18 year olds.
The cost of Corbevax vaccine for children 12 to 14 years of age is Rs 900 in private hospitals and Rs 145 in government hospitals. Two doses are to be taken within 28 days.

what vaccines are there abroad
The US has approved the pfizer-biontech vaccine for children ages 5 to 17. In the UK, the same vaccine is allowed for children aged 5 to 15 years. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) of the European Union has approved the moderna spikevax vaccine for children aged 6 to 11 years.

Other Vaccines for Children 5 to 11 Years Old
The Expert Committee on COVID-19 in the meeting called for more data to review the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) application from Bharat Biotech for the use of the vaccine on children aged 2 to 11 years. Based on the report submitted by the pharmaceutical company, the committee may take a decision in the coming months.
