In fact, last year, India had requested Greece not to export defense material to Pakistan, as a result of which Greece has taken this decision. Pakistan had sought batteries for five Agosta (three 90B and two 70B) class French-built submarines. Exporting arms to Greece requires permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Hence the request was turned down at the highest level keeping in view the India-Greece relations and Pakistan’s closeness with Greece’s biggest rival Turkey.
Servicing will also not be easy
Quoting sources, it is being said in media reports that after the refusal of new batteries, Pakistan is trying to get its old batteries serviced by a subcontractor of the Greek firm from which it wanted to buy the batteries. If reports are to be believed, efforts are being made to create hindrance in the servicing as well. Troubles are entering Pakistan from all directions. Eight hangar-class submarines being built by China also seem to be delayed.

Why can’t find the engine?
The first submarine was to be with the Pakistani Navy by August last year and the second by last month. The first four are to be built in China and the others in Karachi, Pakistan. The reason for the delay appears to be the engine which was to meet the west. Relations between China and the West are strained and because of this there is a ‘reluctance’ to share sensitive weapons with China, while Pakistan is supposed to benefit from it. This is the reason why there is a lot of delay in getting new submarines to Pakistan.
