Rohit has been made the new captain of the Indian team for limited overs. In Test cricket too, he is considered to be a strong contender for the next captain (India New Test Captain). Kohli had also resigned from the captaincy of this format after the end of the Test series against South Africa (Virat Kohli Step Down Test Captain).
Karim gave his opinion while discussing the future strategy of Indian cricket. On the Sports Policy podcast, Karim said, ‘Virat Kohli will have to make extra efforts. They will have some regrets but time will heal every wound. I think Virat Kohli is experienced and mature enough to face all this. We will soon see this on the field as well.
There have been reports in the past that all is not well between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, during the tenure of his captaincy, Virat constantly denied such things.
‘Focus on the big goal’
The former wicket-keeper batsman requested that if there was any difference between both Virat and Rohit, then they should forget it and move on. He said that Rohit and Virat should work together for the betterment of Indian cricket.
Karim said, ‘As the captain, Rohit Sharma will have to go ahead and try. He and Rahul Dravid will have to talk to Kohli together and explain to him what they are thinking and what kind of culture they want to bring in the team. They can also ask Kohli for his opinion on this. Ultimately, both Rohit and Kohli will have to look at the bigger picture and work towards the team’s goal.
‘Work together for the team’
Karim said, ‘If both the players are thinking the same thing then things will be a lot easier. If there is a dispute between the two, then the dressing room dispute will go down rapidly. So it is very important that both work together. Rohit and Kohli will be seen playing together in the limited overs series against West Indies starting on February 6.
