This was the third time in IPL history that Chennai had lost their five-wicket haul during the powerplay. Incidentally, the team that brought Chennai Super Kings to this position twice (2020 and 2021) was also from Mumbai.

Who took how many wickets?
The deadly bowling of Mumbai Indians was responsible behind this condition of Chennai. Daniel Sams took three wickets while Riley Meredith and Kumar Karthikeya took two wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah and Ramandeep Singh got a wicket each while Mukesh Chaudhary, who returned to the pavilion as the last wicket, was run out. The Decision Review System (DRS) was not available during the match due to power failure in almost the first two overs of the match. During this, the team of Chennai lost three wickets.
DRS was also a villain
Openers Devon Conway (nil) and Robin Uthappa (one) were dismissed leg before by Daniel Sams and Jasprit Bumrah respectively and Chennai could not take the DRS. After Uthappa returned to the pavilion, the umpires informed about the availability of DRS. One of the floodlight towers went off just before the toss, which was delayed by a few minutes.
