5400 soldiers of the Indian army deployed across the world
Earlier, the Indian Army and soldiers of other countries thwarted the May 22 attack on an armed group’s FARDC (Congolese Army) and UN Mission under the United Nations flag. The Indian Army has played a major role under the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission. Indian troops are stationed in 8 of the 14 missions being run by the United Nations around the world. At present, 5400 personnel of the Indian Army are deployed in various challenging situations under the flag of the United Nations around the world.
The Indian Army is extensively deployed under the UN flag in Congo, Lebanon, South Sudan, Golan Heights, Syria, Western Sahara, Abayai and Cyprus. India is deploying its Infantry Battalion Group to the United Nations Interim Security Force in Abayei. India has so far provided 15 Force Commanders, two Military Advisors, one Deputy Military Advisor to the UN Secretary General. The bravery of Indian soldiers has been praised many times by the United Nations.
