Russian ambassador said – sanctions will not affect
Russian Ambassador Denis Alipov said that Western sanctions will not affect any transaction related to military hardware and spare parts for India. He pointed out that financial mechanisms exist between the two countries to neutralize these sanctions. He said that I do not see any impediment in the supply of S-400 missile systems to India. We have the mechanism in place and will continue the deal without any hitch. The sanctions on Russia will not affect the defense deal between India and Russia in any way, whether they are new or old. America has already imposed many types of sanctions on Russia. There was speculation that Western sanctions could affect the Russian defense industry. This may create a hindrance in the supply of spare parts to the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy.
Sanctions avoidance mechanism exists between India and Russia
Alipov showed an aggressive stance against sanctions, saying that Russia has always risen from the ashes, it will rise again. I have no doubt about it. We have taken steps to protect ourselves completely. Our economy is stable and will stand still during current or future pressures. The Russian diplomat said that there are mechanisms other than the means of Western countries to avoid sanctions between Russia and India. He also said that we are not worried about it. It is a question of adjusting the present and future situation. It is easy to do. Before becoming ambassador to India, Alipov also served as a diplomat in New Delhi for several years. He urged Indian exporters to consider trading in national currencies.
India-Russia annual trade exceeds $10 billion
According to government figures, India’s annual exports to Russia are worth about $3 billion. At the same time, India imports goods worth more than $ 7 billion from Russia every year. A large part of this is also related to arms deals. India and Russia signed the deal for the S-400 missile system in 2016. The US had also warned of sanctions several times regarding this deal of $ 5.43 billion. Despite this, India remained adamant and Russia even started deliveries of the S-400 last year.
