30 years of relationship
In February this year India and Israel completed 30 years of diplomatic relations. Israel opened its embassy in India in February 1992. After this, India started an embassy in Tel Aviv on 15 May the same year. Benjamin Netanyahu had advocated strong bilateral ties with India as PM. He was the second Israeli PM to visit India. Netanyahu’s visit in the year 2018 proved to be a milestone in the relations between the two countries.
trade between the two countries
Earlier in July 2017, Modi visited Israel and became the first Indian PM to do so. It was only on Modi’s visit that the world saw his chemistry with Netanyahu, after which both were called firm friends. The two leaders also discussed many serious issues. Strong trade relations have also been established between the two countries. In 1992, there was a business of $ 200 million, while in the year 2021-2022 it increased to $ 7.86 billion.
free trade agreement
Bilateral ties between India and Israel further strengthened after PM Modi’s visit to Israel. Since that visit, the foundation of relations between the two countries was laid on new inventions and research. Despite the political crisis, the relationship between the two countries did not suffer. India is negotiating a free trade agreement with Israel, the US and the United Arab Emirates. It is believed that this can be taken care of after Netanyahu returns to power.
