Now the Delhi government is worried about the increasing pollution. Regarding the same matter, the Supreme Court on Saturday questioned the Delhi government whether emergency measures like lockdown for a few days in the national capital were needed to deal with the rising air pollution. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said the deteriorating air quality has forced people to wear masks even at home.
Delhi government should consider two-day lockdown
Seeing the seriousness of the matter, the CJI of the Bar and Bench said that you see how bad the situation is… Even in our homes, we are wearing masks. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), Delhi’s air quality was ‘severe’ on Saturday morning, recording 499 on the Air Quality Index (AQI). In fact, the court was told that there would be an emergency meeting between the Center and the states, including Punjab and Haryana, later today. The Chief Justice said that go beyond the responsibility of the governments (Centre or states) to look into this issue. Something needs to be done so that we can feel better at least for the next two-three days. Now the government has sought a reply from the Delhi government till November 15.

Breathing the air of Delhi is like smoking 20 cigarettes a day
The state government acknowledged the seriousness in court and insisted that breathing Delhi’s air “is like smoking 20 cigarettes a day. We agree with the gravity of the situation.” The national capital witnessed the worst air quality of the season on Friday, with the central pollution watchdog advising people to stay indoors.
