Customs officials arrested a passenger at Jaipur airport who was trying to go to Dubai with huge amount of foreign currency. Police have seized 1 lakh 30 thousand 200 dirhams of United Arab Emirates from the possession of the traveler. Their price in Indian currency is 25 lakh 58 thousand 430 rupees.
The arrested passenger is a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat
Custom Commissioner Rahul Nangre said that the passenger caught with foreign currency is a resident of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. He had gone to Mumbai from Gujarat on Friday. Came to Jaipur from Mumbai on Friday night by Indigo’s domestic flight. The customs officials had already received information about this passenger. This passenger from Jaipur was about to go to Dubai by SpiceJet flight, but before that the team of custom officers detained and searched the passenger and found 6 bags of foreign currency in the pouch under his trolley bag clothes.
Traveler doing business of cosmetic items
During the interrogation of customs officials, the passenger told that he deals in cosmetic items in Dubai. Brings cosmetic items from Dubai and sells in India. This foreign exchange is earned from this business. But this talk of the passenger was not being embraced by the customs officials.
Custom officers are gathering information
According to Additional Customs Commissioner Bharat Bhushan Atal, smugglers of foreign currency make similar excuses. If a cosmetic item was sold in India, it would obviously be sold in Indian currency. The customs officer is interrogating the passenger and collecting information about the people who came in contact with him.
Illegal transport of more than 5 thousand US dollars
According to Bharat Bhushan Atal, Additional Commissioner of Jaipur Custom Department, there is an Act for foreign exchange transportation. According to the Foreign Exchange Management Act 1999, transportation of more than USD 5 thousand cannot be done without a declaration. 1 lakh 30 thousand 200 Transportation of United Arab Emirates currency is completely illegal. For this reason, the foreign exchange has been confiscated under the Foreign Exchange Management Act 1999 by arresting the traveler.
