Action taken on delay in smart city projects

Saharanpur. Smart City has imposed heavy penalty on SDA and Bridge Corporation for delay in Smart City projects. Smart City CEO also warned other executing agencies and said that all the projects are being reviewed and action of penalty is also under consideration on other executing agencies delaying the projects. Smart City has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore 27 lakh on SDA and Rs 37 lakh 18 thousand on Bridge Corporation.
After the selection of Saharanpur as a smart city, work on many smart city projects in the city is being done through various implementing agencies. These agencies include both private and government agencies. Smart City Executive Engineer Amarendra Gautam said that all the projects of Smart City are reviewed weekly by the Smart City Chairman/Divisional Commissioner and from time to time by the Smart City CEO/City Commissioner. Officers and representatives of the executing organizations are also present in all review meetings.
He said that many executing agencies have been repeatedly warned about the slow pace of work and on their request they have been given more time, but even then some executing agencies continue to delay the work. He said that as per the terms of the contract, penalty action has been taken against SDA and Bridge Corporation for not completing the work within the time limit. He said that the work of construction of CC road, construction of Mela Gughal gate and fountain in Mela Gughal area is being done by SDA which has not been completed even till date. Due to incomplete work, a lot of problems had to be faced in the last fair Gughal also. Executive Engineer Gautam said that for delay in work, a fine of Rs 1 crore 27 lakh has been imposed on SDA at the rate of Rs 3 lakh 63 thousand per week from September 1, 2023 till now.
Shri Gautam said that the work of construction of six lane bridge between Dal Mandi and Pul Khumran and between Sabzi Mandi and Chatra Bridge on Pawndhoi River is being done by Bridge Corporation. But the work of these bridges has also not been completed within the time limit as per the terms of the contract. For which a fine of Rs 18 lakh 59 thousand 310 has been imposed on Bridge Corporation at the rate of Rs 2 lakh 6 thousand 590 for one bridge and the same fine has been imposed for the other bridge. Thus, a total penalty of Rs 37 lakh 18 thousand 620 has been imposed on Bridge Corporation.
Smart City CEO Sanjay Chauhan, while emphasizing on all the executing agencies to complete the work with quality within the time limit, said that other projects are also being reviewed, penalty action is also under consideration on other executing agencies for delay in the projects. .
