The incident happened near Hamidia Hospital
The matter is of 1998 when Modi was appointed in-charge of Madhya Pradesh BJP before the assembly elections. Modi had returned from Raipur to Bhopal and was on his way to the BJP office from the airport. Some journalists were also with him in two cars. On the way, Modi’s car stopped at the crossroads near Hamidia Hospital. Then the convoy of Chief Minister Digvijay Singh was about to leave from there. Police had stopped traffic at the intersection when Modi reached there.
Modi’s name has no effect on the Thanedar
The driver of the car tried to cross-examine the police officer, but he did not budge. Then the BJP worker sitting in the car told about the presence of Narendra Modi. This also had no effect. The driver told the police station in a threatening manner that assembly elections are going to be held after a few months. Then the BJP government will be formed and then it will have to face the consequences of its actions. The police officer did not melt even after this and Modi had to stay there till Digvijay’s convoy passed.
Modi failed for the first time in MP
Digvijay may not have even been aware of this incident at that time, but after a few months when the assembly elections were held, Modi’s report card got a red mark for the first time. Modi’s every bet failed in front of Digvijay’s political management and he was successful in becoming the Chief Minister for the second time in a row. This was the first failure of Modi’s career. Earlier, he had been the state in-charge in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh and the BJP government was formed in both the states.
BJP leaders also boycotted Modi
Modi may have blamed Digvijay for his failure, but many senior BJP leaders were equally responsible for this. In 1998, when Modi came to Bhopal as the state in-charge, he used to talk about leaders like Sunderlal Patwa and Krishnamurari Moghe in the state. The local leaders were confident of the formation of the BJP government after the assembly elections, but they did not want to give the credit to any outsider. Due to this, he had almost boycotted Modi.
