The city got its first woman MLA when former Bhopal mayor Krishna Gaur was elected MLA from Govindpura assembly constituency of the city in the December 2018 assembly elections. A year later, Pragya Singh Thakur contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Bhopal parliamentary seat. He defeated veteran Congress leader and former MP Digvijay Singh by a huge margin of votes. Although she was not the first woman MP from Bhopal, Uma Bharti also won the Bhopal seat in the 1999 Lok Sabha elections.
BJP occupied all three posts
In the municipal elections last month, the BJP fielded a former corporator, Malti Rai, as its mayoral candidate. He defeated former Bhopal mayor Congress candidate Vibha Patel by a huge margin of votes. If we look at history, Bhopal has been dominated by women rulers.

Four women- Qudsia Begum, Sikandar Begum, Shah Jahan Begum and Sultan Jahan ruled the city in the past. He took many important decisions regarding the development of the city. Political experts say that in the current scenario it will be interesting to see that three women leaders of the ruling party are holding important posts in the city. It will be interesting to see how she takes the city forward on the path of development.
