What is the truth of the cannabis plant? Boheco’s Ayurvedic Medical Practitioner Dr. Harshad Jain said that much of what we know about the cannabis plant is misleading. There is a difference between ganja, bhang and charas. Also, in a situation its use is legal and beneficial.
Hemp, cannabis and marijuana are different
According to Dr. Harshad JainHemp and marijuana are plants that belong to the same species, Cannabis. The most important factor differentiating the two is the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the addictive cannabinoid. Hemp has historically been known to have low levels of THC (often, 0.3%), while marijuana has been known to have high levels of THC.
Ganja, Bhang, Charas are not the same
The hemp plant consists of leaves (Bhang), seeds, buds (Ganja) and stems with resins (Charas). All of these have a number of industrial and medical uses. As per the National Drugs and Psychotropics (NDPS) Act, cannabis (leaves), along with seeds and fiber are legally permitted. While charas (resins) and ganja (buds) are illegal. Not only this, cannabis has been an integral part of the culture and medicine of India, while cannabis has been considered the most sacred and powerful herb in the Atharva Veda. When taken as an Ayurvedic medicine, it can relieve pain, incomplete sleep, stress, poor digestion.
Used only as Ayurvedic medicine
One of the reasons cannabis leaf-based medicines work on the human body is the presence of the endocannabinoid system (ECS). It is a signaling system to the cell, which includes endocannabinoids, enzymes, and receptors. Due to ECS the body functions adequately and balance or homeostasis is maintained. Since it is distributed throughout the body, topical application of cannabis leaf-based medicines topically or under the tongue is equally effective and provides a natural remedy for relieving the symptoms of diseases.
whole plant is used
Cannabis leaf-based medicines in India come under the AYUSH departments of individual states. Ayurvedic medicine takes advantage of the synergistic effects of whole plant extracts for healing, which is important for holistic healing. The adjuvant effect of full-spectrum cannabinoids is more effective than either alone or broad-spectrum extracts.
overuse is dangerous
When it comes to cannabis leaf-based medicines, they typically include full spectrum extracts. But higher dosage does not always guarantee better or faster results. Incorrect use of these medicines can cause side effects such as sleepiness, diarrhoea, dry mouth etc. Any cannabis leaf-based medicine must be taken under the supervision of a licensed physician.
