Rishabh is now on a long road to recovery, which meant that fans in New Delhi could not see him in action during the second Test against Australia. Cricket lover Ankit Kumar said, ‘Rishabh Pant’s absence was felt all the time, as he is the bridge between the middle and lower order. I love watching his batting. Although KS Bharat is in his place.
Ever since India’s home season began with the T20 against Sri Lanka in January, there have been several posters of fans wishing Pant a speedy recovery. One such scene was witnessed in New Delhi, where a fan was holding a placard which read ‘Get Well Soon Pant’. In another instance, a youth was holding a collage that read ‘Miss you Rishabh Pant, get well soon’ with a heart emoji, which had pictures of his exploits in Test cricket. He said, ‘If you have Rishabh in your playing XI, he will make an impact, be it in keeping or batting. There is also the home factor as he has played more Ranji Trophy matches here than Virat Kohli in the last decade.
Ankit was very keen in New Delhi to watch Rishabh pull India out of the tough situations that defined his Test career. He said, ‘When India toured Australia last time, their main fort was Gabba, and they broke it. He showed that I can break your fort and I wanted to see him do it in India, which did not happen. Rishabh’s absence affected Lovepreet a lot when India’s first innings was being played on the second day. ‘It felt especially when two-three wickets had fallen and Jadeja was batting with Kohli. They stitched a brilliant partnership and then Akshar, Ashwin got India back in the game.
