Pakistan defeated West Indies (Pakistan vs West Indies T20) by 9 runs in the second T20 match on the basis of the excellent performance of their bowlers. With this, the host Pakistan team has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3-match series. This is Pakistan’s 19th win in T20 this year which is a record. The third and last T20 match of the series will be played on Thursday.
This is the most wins by a team in T20s in a calendar year (2021). Chasing the target of 173 runs set by Pakistan, the Windies team could only manage 163 runs. Opener Brendon King played the highest innings of 67 runs from his side. King hit 6 fours and 3 sixes in 43 balls in his fifty.
Chasing the target, the visiting West Indies team did not have a good start. Only 17 runs were added to the total score that opener Shai Hope went on after scoring 1 run. He was caught by Mohammad Wasim Jr at the hands of Iftikar Ahmed.
After this, Shamrah Brooks returned to the pavilion after scoring 10 runs. Captain Nicholas Pooran made 26 off 26 balls while Romario Shepherd returned unbeaten on 35. For Pakistan, fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi took 3 wickets while Mohammad Nawaz, Wasim Jr and Haris Rauf took 2-2 wickets. Earlier, Shadab Khan scored an unbeaten 28 off 12 balls with the help of three sixes as Pakistan posted 172 for 8.
Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat but none of their batsmen could convert a good start into a big innings. In such a situation, the team reached a challenging score due to Shadab’s stormy innings. For Pakistan, openers Mohammad Rizwan (38 off 30 balls), Haider Ali (31 off 34 balls) and Iftikhar Ahmed (32 off 19 balls) made useful contributions.
For West Indies, Odion Smith took two wickets for 24 runs while Akil Hossain took one wicket for 16 runs in four overs. Apart from them, Hayden Walsh, Romerio Shepherd and Oshane Thomas also took a wicket each.
