Amarnath used the vote
Meanwhile, Amarnath used his vote to select 36-year-old Ghulam Ahmed as the captain in the opening Test. Ahmed was ruled out due to injury ahead of the first Test in Mumbai. Now Amarnath advised the board that Manohar Hardikar should be included in the team in place of Ahmed. But the other selectors, mainly LP Jai called up local spinner Bapu Nadkarni. Amarnath was enraged when Jay announced that Polly Umrigar would be captaining the team.
Indian team was opposed
Under the captaincy of Umrigar, the first Test between India and Windies was drawn. After the match, Jay accused Amarnath of making derogatory remarks. He also complained to the BCCI about this.
