Let us tell you that this riot started in India when on October 31, 1984, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own bodyguards who were Sikhs. Many Sikhs were killed across the country and violence erupted everywhere. The film Jogi, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, tells the story of the violence that erupted against the Sikh community after the assassination of Indira Gandhi. It is said that most of the killings took place inside Delhi in this violence and then Sikhs were not safe even inside their homes.
‘I’ve been hearing about this ever since I was born’
Diljit Dosanjh said in a conversation with PTI, ‘We should not call it a riot, but the most appropriate word for it is massacre. When there is a two sided fight between the people then it can be called a riot. According to me it should be called genocide. It’s not that it happened to only one or two or a few people. I know this incident has happened to all of us collectively. If I talk about some incidents, it will be personal. We have talked about this collectively in this film. I have been hearing about it ever since I was born and am still living with those memories.
Diljit said – this is not a new story
He said, ‘This is not a new story. This film is also going to tell the same story that we have grown up listening to. Everyone should see what happened there. We have always given the message of positivity. Gurdwara where we take blessings and langar where we all sit together and eat, everything gives a message of positivity. We all should know about history. Cinema is a medium where we make light-hearted and fun-loving films, but films should also be made on such issues of history.
The story of three friends in the film and the fire of Sikh riots all around
Diljit is playing an important role in this film, which will be available on Netflix from Friday. There will be a thrilling and emotional journey of three friends fighting in this film. Apart from Diljit, the role of these three friends will be Mohammad Zeeshan Ayub and Hiten Tejwani. Kumad Mishra and Amyra Dastur will also be seen in very strong characters. The film is produced by Himanshu Kishan Mehra along with Ali Abbas.
