Thakur said that the Cannes Festival would begin with a colorful evening organized at the famous Magistac Beach there, where India’s cinema, India’s heritage, Indian culture being the focus country would be presented. Even the dishes served on that day will be Hindustani. Not only this, there will be a special offer of India’s Choir Band, Folk Music and Fireworks on this occasion.
On May 19, the cinema festival will begin with the world premiere, in which actor-producer R. Madhavan’s film ‘Rocketry’ will be screened. The film is a biopic based on the life of well-known Indian scientist and former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan. Madhavan will also be present on this occasion. This year also marks the centenary year of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray. On this occasion, a show of his best film ‘Drived’ will be held in the classic section at Cannes.
India has also been named ‘Country of Honor’ in the ‘Cannes Next’ category, under which five new startups will be given a chance to join the audio visual industry, while ten professionals will be given an opportunity to participate in the Animation Day Networking. Whereas in the ‘Goes to Cannes’ section, five films from India have been given a chance to be a part of the film market, these include Zacheng Shai Dhutia’s Assamese film ‘Baghjan’, Assamese film ‘Baghjan’, Shailendra Sahu’s Chhattisgarhi film ‘Bailadila’. Ektara Collective’s Hindi film ‘Ek place Apni’, Harshad Nalwade’s Marathi, Kannada and Hindi film ‘Follower’ and Jaishankar’s Kannada film ‘Shivamma’.
A big attraction from India’s point of view will be the Olympia Screen Cinema Hall on May 22, where five Indian films that have not been released anywhere will be screened.
