Syama Prasad Mookerjee was born on 6 July 1901. He belonged to a Bengali family and his father’s name was Ashutosh Mukherjee, a judge of the Calcutta High Court. Prasad started his early education in 1906 from Mitra Sansthan in Bhawanipur. He took admission in Presidency College after passing his matriculation examination. He stood 17th in the Inter-Arts Examination in 1916 and graduated in English in 1921 securing first position.
