Pi Day is celebrated only on March 14 every year. The pi symbol or term was introduced in 1706 by William Jones, a mathematician. This mathematical symbol became popular in 1737. The credit for popularizing its use goes to Leonhard Euler. Looking back in history, Pi Day was started in 1988 by a San Francisco employee. The employee’s name was Larry Shaw, also known affectionately as the Prince of Pie.
the sixteenth letter of the greek alphabet
As we all know Pi is a mathematical constant. That is, a number that has a characteristic. Pi is the sixteenth letter of the Greek alphabet. The value of pi in maths is 22/7 and that is why it is also called the mystery number because till date its exact value has not been determined. Even when we break 22/7, we still have 3.14159 available which is not to the point value. Sometimes 22/7 and sometimes 3.14159 are also used as the value of pi in mathematics.
NASA also uses Pi
Pi is used in many forms in our day to day life but it is most commonly used to measure the length of any river. This is because of the problem of tolerance in measuring length due to the curvature. You would be surprised to know that even NASA uses Pi. Yes Pi is very important number for space mission.
