However, after the stoppage of wheat exports, the purchase price of this major food grain has come down in the mandis, due to which farmers’ organizations are opposing the government’s decision to ban wheat exports. When asked whether in such a situation, farmers would be given bonus on wheat in government procurement, the Minister of State for Agriculture did not give any direct answer and said that the government buys wheat from farmers at the minimum support price.
Referring to the different schemes of the Narendra Modi government regarding agriculture, he said, “The budget for agriculture in the country was only Rs 23,000 crore during the year 2013, which we have increased six times to Rs 1.32 lakh crore.”
Earlier, Chaudhary inaugurated ‘Soya Mahakumbh’ in Indore, which is called the financial capital of Madhya Pradesh, the country’s largest soybean producing state. He said in this program that the government is promoting the cultivation of oilseeds and palms to make the country self-reliant in the field of edible oils.
The ‘Soya Mahakumbh’ has been organized by the Central Government’s Indian Institute of Soybean Research (IISR) in collaboration with private organizations. Agricultural scientists, farmers and people from other allied parties are participating in this three-day gathering of soybean sector.
