The development comes within a week of the company announcing 11,000 job cuts across the globe.
The company has now given the responsibility of Meta India public policy to Shivnath Thukral, who is currently WhatsApp’s director of public policy in India.
Will Cathcart, head of WhatsApp, said in the statement, “I want to thank Abhijit Bose for his incredible contribution as our first head of WhatsApp in India. His entrepreneurial drive has helped our team deliver innovative services that have benefited millions of people and businesses.”
“There’s much more WhatsApp can do for India, and we’re excited to help drive the digital transformation,” he added.
Bose joined WhatsApp in February 2019 as the company’s first country head in India.
Bose said in a social media post that this week has been tough for all WhatsApp teams.
He said he would rejoin the ‘world of entrepreneurship’ after a short hiatus.
At the same time, Thukral will now take over as the head of public policy affairs for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp in India.
