NITI Aayog has concluded this regarding institutional delivery in a report released on the progress of nutrition campaign during the pandemic period. According to this, about 53.48 lakh women were delivered in institutional health facilities during October-December 2020. This number was 54.98 lakh in the same period before Covid a year ago.
Apart from this, the number of women who got the benefit of post-delivery health check-up during October-December 2020 was around 30.52 lakh. This figure was lower than the number of 31.31 lakh women who went for postnatal check-ups during October-December 2019.
The NITI Aayog report says that in most states and union territories, the number of women having institutional deliveries decreased compared to the pre-covid period. The highest such decline was recorded in Bihar and Chandigarh.
According to the report, the maximum utilization (58 per cent) of the funds allocated under the central government’s ambitious POSHAN Abhiyaan till the end of the financial year 2019-20 was in Kerala, while the lowest (eight per cent) was used in Odisha.
In the case of smaller states, Nagaland (87 per cent) topped the list and Arunachal Pradesh (nine per cent) was at the bottom. In the case of Union Territories, Lakshadweep (65 per cent) topped and Puducherry (22 per cent) was at the bottom.
The report shows that 15 states have recruited more than 75 per cent Nursing Assistant (ANM) posts with Odisha leading the way with 100 per cent record. In Bihar, 52 percent, Uttar Pradesh 61 percent and Himachal Pradesh 71 percent of the ANM posts have been recruited.
