Addressing a seminar on ‘Industry Connectivity 2022: Synergy between Industry and Academic Sectors’, the Minister said that the government has started PLI scheme for various sectors to make India self-reliant. The event was organized by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers in association with Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology (CIPET) and industry body FICCI.
Mandaviya, who is also holding the responsibility of the Health Ministry, said, “We are thinking about how to bring the PLI scheme for the chemical sector. We have started working in this direction.
In a separate conversation during the program, he said that the ministry is working in this direction but the government will take the final decision. Mandaviya said that the objective of this initiative is to ensure that all major chemicals for domestic and global markets are manufactured in the country.
It is noteworthy that the government launched the PLI scheme for 13 sectors last year with a commitment of Rs 1.97 lakh crore over five years from 2021-22.
The Minister emphasized on better synergy between Government Departments, CIPET, Industry and academia for the overall development of this emerging sector.
He said that this sector has an important role to play in achieving the country’s goal of becoming a $5 trillion economy.
Mandaviya stressed the need to make the country a global manufacturing hub for exports along with meeting the domestic demand. He also said that the ‘logistic’ cost in the country is high, making exports uncompetitive.
The minister said that in view of this, the government is investing a lot in the construction of infrastructure related to roads, railways and waterways.
On this occasion, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Bhagwant Khuba mentioned the steps taken by the government to make the country self-reliant.
