Gopaldas Aggarwal, president of Madhya Pradesh Gross Grain Pulses Oilseeds Traders Federation Committee, told PTI, “Due to the sudden ban on wheat export by the central government, about 5,000 trucks sent by traders from the state to Kandla and Mumbai. are standing at the ports and large consignments of wheat laden in them are not being exported.
Merchants’ deals stuck
He said that this time the state government had encouraged the traders to export wheat, after which they had bought wheat from the farmers at prices higher than the minimum support price, but now their export deals are stuck due to the Centre’s ban. Aggarwal said, “The traders will neither buy nor sell goods on Tuesday and Wednesday in all the 270 agricultural produce markets of the state against the ban on export of wheat.”
Wheat exports to be restored
He demanded that the central government should restore wheat exports by withdrawing the ban in the interest of both traders and farmers. It is worth noting that amidst concerns about affecting wheat production due to scorching heat and heat, India has imposed a ban on the export of wheat to check the steep rise in the prices of its staple food grain. The Center has said that apart from meeting the foodgrain requirement of neighboring and vulnerable countries, the decision will help in controlling the retail prices of wheat and flour, which have risen by an average of 14 to 20 per cent in the last one year.
