A unique incident happened with Perth Scorcher fast bowler Andrew Tye in Australia’s T20 league Big Bash League. He was barred from bowling in the match. The reason for this was to throw the beamer (the ball above the batsman’s waist without hitting the mark) more than the rule. This match was played against Sydney Thunder at Manuka Oval.
Tye had bowled three balls of his second over. It was the 15th over of Sydney Thunder’s innings. The umpire stopped Tye from bowling further in the match. In fact, Tye had thrown two full toss just above the batsman’s waist.
“What’s going on with another beamer, Andrew Tye,” said Isha Guha, commentating on Fox Cricket.
Tye hasn’t had a good day with the ball. He conceded 26 runs in 9 legal balls. Two consecutive fours were hit in the first two balls of Tye’s second over. Sam Billings made a strong start to the over by hitting two consecutive boundaries. However, he was out on the next ball. He was caught by Josh Ignis. Billings played an innings of 67 runs off 35 balls. He hit 10 fours and two sixes in his innings.
Next Tye then bowls the ball to Alex Ross. It was a full toss over the waist. Tye tries to bowl a yorker. He somehow played the ball. After that the next ball was wide. After this once again Tye threw the ball above the waist. This time Ross sends him for a boundary. But as Tye had thrown two beamers, he was barred from bowling further in the match.
Perth Scorcher won the toss and decided to bowl first. Jason Sangha scored 56 off 46 balls. He hit five fours in this innings. In reply, Perth Scorcher’s team, however, scored 166 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs. Andrew Tye showed good play with the bat, scoring 44 runs off 25 balls. He hit three fours and three sixes in this innings.
