Former Indian wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel says that Virat Kohli should open the innings with Rohit Sharma in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022. According to him, opening of Virat will give good balance to the team in Australia.
Parthiv mentioned that Rohit and Virat should open together, as both have a very different approach. Virat had scored his maiden T20I century on September 8, opening the innings against Afghanistan in the Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2022, and since then many cricket experts have said that Kohli should open the innings for India.
Virat Kohli opened the innings with KL Rahul in the absence of Rohit Sharma against Afghanistan and scored an unbeaten 122 off 61 balls with 12 fours and six sixes.
During the discussion on the Cricbuzz show, Parthiv said,
It is very clear. If I was clear that Virat Kohli should open in the Asia Cup, then he should open in the World Cup as well. It gives the right balance. They (Kohli and Rohit Sharma) are two different players. One is very aggressive (from the start), can hit boundaries, and it is Kohli who finds the gap and hits boundaries. If Rohit and Kohli can play the first six overs, I have no doubt that they will take India close to fifty even in Australian conditions. It’s a good score without losing a wicket.
Virat Kohli is India’s best batsman in Australian conditions – Parthiv Patel
Parthiv has described Virat Kohli as the best-suited batsman for India in Australian conditions. They said,
Kohli is probably India’s best batsman suited to those conditions. so why not. You have your two best batsmen to play the first six overs. If you have wickets in hand, it has always been a recipe for success for any T20 team.
