Virat Kohli is the only cricketer among the 100 highest paid players in the world. Kohli is ranked 61st in the list of the prestigious Forbes magazine. His earnings in 2021 were Rs 262 crore, of which Rs 240 crore came from advertisements and Rs 22 crore from sports (including IPL fees).
Pat on top for the third consecutive year
A report in the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age on Wednesday said the 29-year-old Cummins took home AUD 1.8 million to play for Australia and earned AUD 200,000 to lead the team this year. These figures were brought out internally by Cricket Australia this week through rankings and Cummins was the leading earner in the game for the third year in a row, according to the report.
Josh Hazlewood at number two
Cummins fast bowler Josh Hazlewood is second in terms of earning. It is followed by opener David Warner, fast bowler Mitchell Starc, batsmen Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne and spinner Nathan Lyon. Among the top gainers this year is Hazlewood, who has moved up from fifth to second this year despite playing just two Tests last season. After the first Ashes Test at home, the fast bowler was ruled out of the entire series due to injury.
How is Steve Smith?
Batting legend Steve Smith has moved up from second to fifth and Labuschagne, the No. 1 batsman in the ICC Test Rankings, is sixth in terms of earnings. Australia are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka next week for a month, which includes three T20Is, five ODIs and two Tests. The series will begin with the first T20 match on June 7 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
