Imran Khan, who came to power promising to create a new Pakistan, has now given a new slogan, ‘Mera Pakistan, my home’. This house of Imran is now going to be engulfed in a political storm. According to reports in Pakistani media, the tension between Imran Khan and Army Chief General Qamar Javed, who came to power with the help of the army, has increased. On the other hand, the opposition has taken General Bajwa in its court. Not only this, the leader of Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is also not happy with Imran Khan. It is being claimed that by March, there may be a cloud of crisis on the Imran government.
On Wednesday itself, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan had to adjourn the session of Parliament. The reason for this was that Imran Khan could not muster the necessary strength to pass the two bills. This angered Imran Khan a lot. On one hand Imran Khan’s allies are not supporting him, while speculation has intensified in the country that the Pakistani army is also shunning him.
PDM announces demonstration on March 23 on Pakistan Day
In view of this change coming in Pakistan, the opposition parties have intensified the praise of General Bajwa and the army. The Pakistan Democratic Movement, formed against Imran Khan, defeated Imran Khan’s party in his stronghold in the local elections held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. PDM leaders are thanking the army for this. The PDM has announced a nationwide protest to overthrow the Imran Khan government on Pakistan Day on 23 March.
Analysts watching Pakistan say that the situation in the country is changing rapidly. There are strong indications that the army has decided to stop giving full support to Imran Khan. Najam Sethi, editor of Pakistani newspaper Friday Times, has written, quoting various sources, ‘The army is in talks with former PM Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif and its positive results have come out. There are one or two problems, as soon as they are resolved, both will jointly take action to remove the Imran government and general elections will be held under the leadership of a transitional government.
Imran called ‘puppet’ leader in India: Nawaz
Nawaz Sharif, who is living in London on Thursday, indicated that he would be returning to the country very soon. Nawaz Sharif has once again taken a jibe at Imran Khan, saying that the cricketer-turned-politician has been called a ‘puppet’ leader in India since he was brought to power in 2018 by a powerful army. “In India, Prime Minister Imran Khan is called a puppet and in America it is said that he (Imran) has less authority than the mayor,” Sharif said. This is because the world knows how he has been brought to power. Imran has come to power not with the votes of the common people but with the help of the military establishment.
Sharif, 71, convicted in two corruption cases in Pakistan, has been living in London since November 2019. At that time the Lahore High Court had allowed him to go abroad for four weeks for treatment. Sharif said, “This person (Imran Khan) used to say that he would commit suicide instead of going to the IMF (International Monetary Fund). Now we are waiting when he will commit suicide. Interestingly, just a few days ago, former President and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari had also claimed that he had received a signal from the army to work on a strategy for the future of Pakistan in which Imran Khan would not be there. However, Zardari also said that as long as Imran Khan is in power, there can be no talks.
