The Government of Pakistan and the TTP had agreed on May 31 to extend the ceasefire indefinitely. The ceasefire period ended on 30 May.
Sources said the TTP assured the Ulema-e-Karam delegation led by Mufti Taqi Usmani that the ceasefire would continue during the ongoing peace talks between the two sides.
He said the Pakistani delegation held detailed and fruitful talks with the TTP leadership a few days ago in Kabul under the patronage of the Taliban-led government of Afghanistan. He said the Pakistan government has set up several committees to hold peace talks with Taliban leaders.
TTP is also known as Pakistan Taliban and its main objective is to enforce strict Islamic law throughout Pakistan. The organization is believed to be close to al-Qaeda. The TTP has been blamed for several deadly attacks in Pakistan. These include the attack on the army headquarters in 2009, various attacks on military bases and the 2008 blasts at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad.
Pakistan started talks with the TTP in October last year at the request of the Afghan Taliban.
