China tried to control rain and pollution in Beijing with the help of cloud-seeding technology ahead of the centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of China (CCP). This was revealed by a study by Beijing University. On 1 July the Chinese Communist Party marked its centenary with major celebrations, including thousands in a ceremony in Tiananmen Square. A research paper from Tsinghua University said that cloud-seeding operations were used to reduce haze and air pollution in the sky before the program. This was done so that bad weather does not create any hindrance on the day of the programme.
What is cloud-seeding technology
The Chinese government’s cloud-seeding technology is a very effective and costly technology. It is used for manipulating the agricultural field and the weather. The Chinese government had spent a lot of money for this technology. It was used to manipulate the weather to improve on important events, including the 2008 Olympics. Cloud-seeding is a weather modification technique that adds chemicals, such as tiny particles of silver iodide, to clouds, causing water droplets to accumulate around them and increase the likelihood of rain.

Improvement in pollution due to artificial rain
According to the Tsinghua report, the centenary celebrations faced unprecedented challenges. During this, there was a sudden increase in air pollutants and the sky was covered with a layer of pollution, while the heat was also at a record level. To get rid of this, the government made rain using cloud-seeding technology. Improvement in weather quality was observed after the rains. The level of PM2.5 air pollutants fell by more than two-thirds due to artificial rain. Improvement was also seen in the Air Quality Index. The factories were also ordered to be closed on the day of the political function so that the weather was not affected.
