Bongbong Marcos has been the governor of the state of Ilocos Norte in the northern Philippines. His family was politically strong in this state from 1980 to 2010. The 92-year-old mother of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has twice contested for president in the 1990s, but lost both times.

However, there are several groups in the Philippines that are demanding that Bongbong Marcos be disqualified for the presidency by accusing him of tax evasion. Marcos has termed these allegations as ‘fake news’. Marcos has also refused to participate in the debates of presidential candidates, instead he is reaching people through social media platforms Facebook and Tik-Tok.
