– Helicopters flew in the sky of Kabul
Kabul (EMS). After the Taliban rule in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, its fighters took out a military parade on Sunday with American-made armored vehicles and Russian helicopters. Through this, the Taliban tried to show their transformation from a rebel force to a country’s permanent-regular army. The Taliban operated as an insurgent group for nearly two decades, but in August this year, after the withdrawal of US forces, it used the small arms stockpile left behind.
Defense Ministry spokesman Inayatullah Khawazmi said the parade was about 250 newly trained soldiers completing their graduation. In this exercise, dozens of American-made M117 armored security vehicles were slowed down the main road of Kabul. During this, Mi-17 helicopters were flying in the sky. America’s made M-4 assault rifle was also seen with many soldiers.
Most of the weapons and equipment being used by Taliban forces were given by Washington to the US-backed government in Kabul to prepare Afghan forces for the war against the Taliban. However, this army fell out only after the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani left the country and the Taliban once again seized power. Taliban officials have said former Afghan military pilots, mechanics and other experts will be inducted into the new army. The soldiers of this army have now started wearing traditional military uniforms instead of traditional Afghan clothes.
Last year’s Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction report said that between 2002 and 2017, the US government gave the Afghan government more than $28 billion in arms, ammunition, vehicles, night vision devices, aircraft and Provide defense equipment like surveillance systems. Many planes left after the US left Afghanistan, however, it is not yet clear how many of these are useful. US troops destroyed some 70 aircraft, dozens of armored vehicles and disabled air defense systems before leaving Afghanistan.
