Taliban chief’s order sent to all provinces
Haibatullah Akhundzada has mentioned six rights of women in his decree. The decree from Taliban chief Haibatullah Akhundzada has been sent to the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Information and Culture, the Supreme Court as well as provincial governors and district governors. He has been directed to implement the instructions contained in this decree and to take them to the public.
Women’s consent is necessary for marriage
It states that the consent of adult women is necessary during nikah or marriage. Women cannot be forced to marry under coercion or coercion. There should not be any kind of risk in nikah and marriage.
Woman is not a property, cannot be transacted
The Supreme Leader of the Taliban also said that a woman is not an asset, but a great and free human being. No one can give it to anyone in return for a peace settlement or ending enmity. No one can marry a widow by force after the death of the husband or the end of ‘Sharai Adat’ (four months and ten nights or pregnancy). This includes his relatives as well.
Widow also has the right to choose her future
Akhundzada said that a widow has the right to marry or choose her future. There should be no feeling of pressure and principle of equality in marriage. A widow has a right in the Shariat to receive a ‘mahar’ from her new husband. Mahar is an amount fixed by the wife and the husband during the marriage, which is paid by the husband to the wife.
Right of widow in father’s and husband’s property
In the Islamic Emirate of the Taliban, a widow has inheritance rights and a fixed share in the property of her husband, children, father and relatives. No one can deprive a widow of her right. Men having polygamy (more than one wife) will be compelled to give rights to all women and maintain justice among them according to Sharia law.
