Ever since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, there is an atmosphere of fear among the people there and now the people of Afghanistan have become even more form Dada when the Taliban has returned to its old form. He is throwing a flurry of repressive orders that are reminiscent of his harsh regime in the late 1990s. Girls are banned from going to school beyond the sixth grade. Let us tell you that when the Taliban was taking control of Afghanistan, it was said on behalf of the Taliban that it would give freedom to women to study, but once again the brutal form of Taliban is being seen.
Not only this, without women, a male relative has been banned from boarding the plane alone. Men and women can only go to public parks on different days and the use of mobile phones has also been banned in universities. This cycle does not end here. International media, including BBC services in two of Afghanistan’s languages Pashto and Farsi, were suspended over the weekend.
Similarly, the broadcast of foreign drama series has also been stopped. The US and NATO have withdrawn after 20 years of war in Afghanistan and the Taliban occupied the country in mid-August 2021. After this, the international community was concerned that Afghanistan would reintroduce the strict law implemented during its rule in the past. Women’s rights came under attack earlier this month when the Taliban government reneged on its promise to allow sixth grade girls to attend school.
The move shocked much of the world and many in Afghanistan, especially despite the Taliban’s “assurances on all urgent issues”. The United Nations has described the ban on international media broadcasts as “another repressive step against the people of Afghanistan”.
