There seems to be an increasing tension between China and Sri Lanka regarding organic fertilizers, in the past, Sri Lanka has termed the organic fertilizer sent by China as harmful and they completely ended their deal with China. Sri Lanka has also withheld the payment amount of the Chinese company, after which China has blacklisted the Sri Lankan government’s People’s Bank as a payment guarantor.
After breaking the deal with China, Sri Lanka has started procuring organic fertilizers from India. China shuddered when the People’s Bank of the Sri Lankan government stopped a $4.9 million payment to Chinese company Qingdo Sivin Biotech. The Sri Lankan government company Ceylon Fertilizers had bought the fertilizer from China’s Qingdo Sivin Company, but due to the harmfulness of organic manure, Ceylon Fertilizer filed this case in the High Court.

The High Court had ruled in this case on October 22, in which they had stopped the payment of the Chinese company. After this, the People’s Bank was blacklisted by the Chinese Embassy in Colombo. The Chinese embassy said that the letter of credit issued by the People’s Bank was not followed, due to which the Chinese company suffered losses. It is not proper to say that the fertilizer sent by the government is harmful, on which the People’s Bank said that we have stopped the payment on the order of the High Court.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had told the Chinese embassy last day that the Chinese company would send good quality fertilizers to Sri Lanka, after that the People’s Bank would be able to pay. This dispute was going on, meanwhile Sri Lanka ordered the supply of organic fertilizers from India. After this, the Indian company last week supplied 31 lakh liters of liquid nano nitrogen fertilizer with the highest quality to Sri Lanka.
