US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said about the defense deal that, “Whichever country decides to use the S-400, our policies have been public regarding them. We think it is dangerous and it is not in anyone’s security interests. However, despite this, I would like to say that the relationship between India and America is very strong. Earlier, the US has also imposed sanctions on Turkey for buying S-400 missiles.

The US may also impose sanctions under Section 231 of the US Countering America Adversaries Through Sanctions Act CAATSA.
In fact, in the year 2018, India had signed a deal with Russia to buy S-400 missiles. According to the country’s Air Chief VR Chaudhary, the first batch of S-400 missile defense systems will reach India this year. “In October 2018, India signed a $5 billion deal with Russia to buy five units of S-400 air defense missile systems.”
