why are they unlucky
First let’s talk about Russia’s aircraft carrier Kuznetsov which has always been unlucky. It was launched in the year 1985. The 60,000 tonne ship suffered an engine breakdown at the time of launching. After this there were many incidents of fire and sometimes it was faced with shocking incidents. In the year 2012, this thousands of ton aircraft had to be pulled by a small boat. At that time the engine of this ship had stopped on a French coast.
crane crash
The talk of overhauling this aircraft carrier was going on since 2017. In the year 2018, this aircraft carrier was completely damaged due to falling of a crane. The incident of crane collapse had left a huge crater of 200 square feet on the flight deck. This was followed by a fire incident in December 2019. It was a horrific accident in which a sailor was killed. The fire broke out when the ship was undergoing re-fit in Murmansk.
shipwreck
After this, there was an incident of fire in December 2022, which was termed as a small incident by the Government of Russia. Kuznetsov is currently in such a bad condition that it can neither move nor be pulled by its own strength. According to the media of Ukraine, this ship can sink at any time. When the diving team inspected the ship, they found corrosion in its structure below the third deck. Due to the ship, many places were filled with dirty water and because of this, it was also difficult to test the ship.
How China got Russian ship
A Russian MP, Sergei Karginov, has proposed a solution to this problem. He says that Russia should buy the same aircraft carrier Varyag from China which was given to it during the Soviet Union era. Varyag is the other half of Kuznetsov. When the Soviet Union ended in the year 1991, the construction of this ship was going on. When the Soviet Black Sea Fleet was split between Russia and Ukraine, the Ukrainian military claimed possession of the Varyag.
Ukraine sold to Chinese citizen
Ukraine then sold the ship to China for $20 million. The Chinese client then converted the ship into a floating casino. The Varyag was towed to China and survived the sinking. After this, the journey of this ship ended in a naval shipyard. Here it has been reproduced. After refitting, the ship became China’s first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning.
Now became the power of China
In 2012, it was handed over to the Chinese Navy and is now the base for 40 jets and helicopters of the Chinese Air Wing. Also, these J-15 fighter jets which are the Chinese version of Russia’s Sukhoi-33 carrier jet. Liaoning has now become a training ship of the Chinese Navy. According to Karginov, Liaoning should be renamed after Vladimir Zhirinovsky, leader of Russia’s right-wing Liberal Democratic Party.
