    Islamabad: Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir is currently on a visit to China and will stay here for the next three days. Wednesday was the first round of his tour. It has been told by the army’s media wing Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) that on the first day, General Munir has discussed mutual security interests as well as military cooperation. General Munir was given a warm welcome and a guard of honor at the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Headquarters.

    Munir met PLA Commander
    On 29 November 2022, Munir took over as the Chief of the Pakistan Army and this is his first visit to China. If Pakistan’s media is to be believed, General Munir’s visit to China is very delicate considering the current politics in South Asia. It has been told by the ISPR that General Munir met the PLA Commander and discussed several issues in detail.

    With General Munir, the Commander discussed matters of mutual security interest and military cooperation. Both the military commanders reiterated the need to maintain peace and stability in the region and enhance military-to-military cooperation. Gen Munir also reviewed the operational capabilities of the PLA troops and the training displayed by the troops. Generals of both the countries have agreed for training between Pakistan’s military and PLA in the coming times.

    Experts surprised by the delay in the tour
    According to Pakistani military experts, it is unusual for the army chief to take this much time to complete his visit to China. Usually new army chiefs in Pakistan visit China within a few weeks of their appointment. General Munir’s visit to China took a long time. It is being told that along with the internal situation in Pakistan, the infection of Covid-19 in China is also responsible for the delay in his visit. This first visit of General Munir is also important because recently Chinese President Xi Jinping has appointed new Prime Minister as well as new Defense and Foreign Ministers. Apart from this, his third term has also started.
