Two trustees of the Science Museums Group (SMG) have submitted their resignations from the board following the decision to make Adani Green Energy a title sponsor for their upcoming historical gallery. The new gallery in London will showcase concepts and advances that will enable the world to undergo an energy transition to combat climate change. Adani Green Energy, a company of the Adani Group, has been named as the title sponsor. This decision was opposed by two trustees of the Science Museum and now they have tendered their resignations.
Both trusts opposed Adani becoming a sponsor
The announcement to make Adani the title sponsor was made earlier this month during the Global Investment Summit held at the museum in the presence of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. SMG is a non-departmental public body that receives support from the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport but runs independently. Dr Hannah Fry, of the group affiliated with SMG, said in a statement that I do not support the recent agreement with Adani and feel that the museum needs to actively engage with reasonable concerns opposing their stance on fossil fuel sponsorship. is needed so that it can maintain its important position as a leader in the national dialogue on the climate crisis.
