A New York Times report states that according to corroborated reports, Pakistani soldiers in almost every sector enslaved Bengali women and kept them naked in their bunkers. The mutilated bodies of several women were recovered after Pakistani troops surrendered on 16 December. Other independent reports claimed that most of the captured Indian soldiers were killed by the Pakistanis. In these cases also the bodies were mutilated.
What did General Bajwa say?
General Bajwa, in his last speech before retirement on November 29, termed the 1971 war as a ‘political defeat’ rather than a ‘military’ one. He had claimed that the number of Pakistani soldiers who took part in the war was not 92 thousand but only 34 thousand. They were up against 2.5 lakh Indian soldiers and 2 lakh Muktivahini soldiers who were given special training. Bajwa said, ‘Our army fought bravely but their martyrdom has not been honored till date.’
Bangladeshi writer made allegations
Earlier, Bangladesh writer and activist Taslima Nasreen had made a big allegation on Pakistani soldiers while reacting to the claim of UN official on Russia-Ukraine war.
