Islamabad, May 18 (PTI) Terrorist group Pakistan Taliban has extended the ceasefire with the Pakistan Army till May 30 after a high-level meeting in Afghanistan. This was claimed in a news report.
The Pakistan Taliban is called Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Its spokesman Muhammad Khurasani said that in a meeting with the Pakistan delegation led by former ISI chief and current Peshawar Corps commander Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, the TTP agreed to extend the ceasefire till May 30 on the demand of the tribal people.
According to the news of Express Tribune newspaper, the delegation of Pakistan Army included Military Intelligence (MI) officers and ISI officers.
According to reports, the terrorist organization TTP also spoke to Mehsud and the people of Malakand to reach a peace settlement amid increasing incidents of terrorism in the tribal districts bordering Afghanistan.
Sources told the newspaper that the delegation led by General Hameed held direct talks with top TTP leaders on the assurances of the Haqqani network. “Pakistan Army and later Mehsud and Malakand Jirga have held separate meetings since Monday,” he said.
In a meeting with army officials, the Taliban have made several demands in return for continuing the ceasefire. The Taliban’s demands include the release of its commanders facing life sentences and the death penalty. There are also demands for financial assistance to the militants brought from Afghanistan and amnesty for the families of Taliban fighters.
The Pakistan Taliban has also demanded a halt to Pakistani military operations in the North and South Waziristan tribal districts.
At the same time, the Pakistani army has asked the Taliban to stop cross-border attacks, increase the ceasefire and allow the fencing on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border to continue.
