According to the Pakistan Economic Survey, the number of donkeys in the country has increased by one lakh in the last one year. That is, the number which was 57 lakhs last year has now increased to 58 lakhs.
Earlier in the year 2019-20 there were 55 lakh donkeys in the country and in 2020-21 this number had reached 56 lakh. Meanwhile, the big question is why the number of donkeys in Pakistan is increasing so fast. The reason for this is being told somewhere in China. Actually there is a lot of demand for donkeys in China. In such a situation, there is news that in the past, China had demanded the supply of donkeys from Pakistan. In terms of the maximum number of donkeys, Pakistan is at number three while China is at number one.
China asked for donkeys
According to the report of Pakistani News Dawn in the year 2022, China wanted to import donkeys and dogs from Pakistan because their demand in China had increased a lot in the last few years and there was a decrease in production. There is also news that considering its economic condition, Pakistan showed interest in this deal and agreed to export donkeys and dogs.
For this, the Government of Pakistan had also taken 3 thousand acres of land where donkeys were reared. This information was given during the briefing between the officials of Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce and the Standing Committee of the Senate on Import and Export. According to a report, in the year 2021, Pakistan used to send 80 thousand donkeys to China every year and in return it was given a good price. Not only this, China had invested heavily here to increase the number of donkeys in Pakistan.
Why did the demand for donkeys increase in China?
Actually China uses donkeys to make traditional medicine. Gelatin is obtained from the skin of donkeys, from which medicine is made in China. For this gelatin, donkeys are first killed, then the skin is removed and boiled, after which gelatin is obtained from it. According to reports, medicines made from this gelatin help in strengthening the immune system.
