-What is the ground situation?
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s military has launched hundreds of missiles and artillery attacks on cities and other locations across the country. At the same time, a large contingent of Russian armed forces is stationed outside the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.
Oleksiy Erestovich, adviser to the President of Ukraine, said attacks were continuing in the north-western part of Kyiv. The cities of Kharkiv and Okhtirka have also come under heavy shelling, he said.
Erestovich said Ukrainian forces still controlled the northern city of Chernihiv and the southern city of Mykolaiv. He said Ukrainian artillery had protected Ukraine’s largest port city, Odessa, from attack by Russian ships.
