The WHO said in its weekly update, ‘The threat to the new variant Omicron is still very high. Continuing evidence suggests that the Omicron variant is spreading faster than the delta variant and is doubling in just two to three days. Due to this speed, there has been a rapid increase in corona cases in many countries of the world. These countries also include Britain and America, where it has also left behind Delta.
29% drop in corona cases in South Africa
However, giving a relief news, the global agency said that there has been a 29 percent decline in corona cases in South Africa. The Omicron variant was first reported in South Africa on 24 November. It said that preliminary data coming from Britain, South Africa and Denmark suggest that the risk of hospitalization for Omicron infection is lower than Delta. The WHO said that more data is still needed.
Meanwhile, China reported 200 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours with 162 domestic transmissions, the biggest daily increase in nearly 20 months. This information has been given by Global Times. Of the 162 domestic cases, 150 were reported in Xi’an, the capital of Shanxi province. From December 9 to Monday, the total number of confirmed cases in Xi’an stood at 635. Xi’an Health Commission deputy director Zhang Bo gave this information at a press conference on Monday.
Covid outbreak spread in many cities of China
