RSP’s decision to leave Prachanda government
Earlier, the Rashtriya Swatantra Party on Sunday decided to quit the Prachanda-led government after Dahal decided not to re-appoint RSP president Rabi Lamichhane as home minister. Party member and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Shishir Khanal said the decision to quit the government was taken at a meeting of the RSP’s central committee held at the party office in Vasundhara, the Kathmandu Post reported.
The party leaders who made it to the Dahal-led cabinet — Minister Khanal, Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Dol Prasad Aryal and Minister of State for Health and Population Toshima Karki — will step down, RSP leaders said. However, the party will continue to support the Dahal government. Lamichhane lost his ministerial portfolio after the Supreme Court ruled that the citizenship certificate he had presented to contest parliamentary elections was invalid. Lamichhane’s RSP emerged as the fourth largest party in parliament after winning 20 seats in the federal elections.
