Didymos asteroid will collide
The spacecraft is moving towards the asteroid at a speed of 24 thousand km per hour. This is the first mission related to changing the direction of an asteroid, whose success can save humans from ending like dinosaurs. The asteroid that will collide is named Didymos. The diameter of this asteroid is 2600 feet. The collision will be with its moon Dimorphos, which has a diameter of 525 feet.
Keep an eye on things near the earth
NASA’s target is on Earth’s Near Earth Object Key. Which are at a distance of 48 million km from the Earth. NASA’s goal is to find those asteroids so close that can harm the Earth. Astronomers discovered Didymos two decades ago. The Light Italian CubeSat for Imaging Asteroid will monitor the DART spacecraft collision. He will take close-up pictures of the collision. So far, NASA has discovered more than 8000 Near Earth objects close to the Earth.
