Rabat (His). More than 2,900 people have died so far in the massive earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8, while the lives of a large number of villagers have been saved by attending a wedding ceremony. Many countries have sent relief teams to Morocco.
According to the information, all the people of Morocco’s Ighil Natalghoumat village had gone to attend a wedding ceremony. During this time, thousands of people lost their lives due to a strong earthquake of 6.8 magnitude. Apple farmer Mohammad Boudad (30) was to get married to Habiba Ajidar (22) on September 9, but as per customs, the bride’s family had organized a party on September 8. People were enjoying music before the earthquake. People started screaming due to the sudden earthquake.
Badoud was still wearing his wedding clothes four days after the earthquake. He says, we wanted to celebrate our marriage, but then the earthquake happened and all our hopes were dashed. The bride’s father Mohammad Ajdir (54) had set up a big tent in the courtyard of his house so that the guests could enjoy the party properly. That tent is being used as shelter for the villagers after the earthquake.
Tikakhte village, located near Ighil Natalghomat, has been completely destroyed by the earthquake. Out of the 400 population here, 68 people died due to the earthquake.
It is noteworthy that the earthquake that occurred on September 8 was the most destructive earthquake to hit Morocco since 1960. More than 2900 people have died in this so far. The most damage has been done to the villages located in the valley of the High Atlas Mountains, south of Marrakesh.
