The Ukraine war crushed Gorbachev psychologically
Pavel Plyazchenko said in an interview that this is not just a special military operation that began on February 24, but the entire development of relations between Russia and Ukraine over the years was, in fact, a big blow for him (Mikhail Gorbachev) . It really crushed them emotionally and psychologically. It was very clear to us in conversation with him that he was shocked and bewildered by what was happening. Not only did he believe in the closeness of the Russian and Ukrainian people, but he believed that these two nations were intertwined.
That’s why Putin announced the attack on Ukraine
President Vladimir Putin sent thousands of troops to Ukraine on 24 February. He named it the Special Military Operation for the Defense of Russia. He said the aim was to liberate Ukraine from Nazism and protect the Russian-speaking people. Putin had said that today the enemy is standing on our borders, so it is our responsibility to give a befitting reply. Ukraine says it is defending itself against unprovoked, imperialist-style aggression. Meanwhile, European countries, including the US, have showered sanctions on Russia to increase pressure on Putin, but it does not seem to have any effect.
Palachenko has worked with Gorbachev for 27 years
