Rome (His). Italy has officially announced its withdrawal from China’s dream project Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni had personally informed Chinese Premier Li Qiang in this regard during the G20 summit in India.
Italy was the only G-7 country to join the BRI. According to Italian newspaper Diario Politico, a group led by Italy’s PM Meloni informed the Chinese government about this three days ago. It has been told in the report that several rounds of talks were held between Italy and China for several weeks but to no avail.
Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that even after joining the BRI with China, trade between the two countries has not increased as expected. Italy joined BRI in 2019. Let us tell you that PM Meloni has always spoken against this project. China had influenced former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte to get Italy involved in this project. America was very angry with Italy’s involvement in this. Italy has formally distanced itself from it. However, there has been no reaction from China on this yet.
